why dunny?

Post by sassymonkey » Wed May 12, 2004 4:59 pm

What's the origin/derivation of the name 'Dunny'? '-unny' is clear enough, but just wondering about the 'D-'.
why dunny?

Post by Seamus McClernan » Wed May 12, 2004 9:56 pm

I'd imagine that it's a combination of the words in the phrase "Dumb Bunny."
Kinda run them together... and it also sounds like dummy to.

Surely its from Dunny meaning homie, pal etc "You my dunny" and all that. Or perhaps from the Australian for toilet, tho I doubt that. I did a search for Dunnys on Ebay, got lots of outside toilet statues for sale, what on earth posed them to make those I dont know. English class is over, sorry for boring you.
you never know...

The only thing that comes immediately to mind is that "D-" is for "designer" ... mebbe?
Okay, I give up -- spill it! Someone here must have the real skinny.

My white rump has never heard this term used before.
I thought "dumb bunny" was the correct answer here.

Alright, you guys were pretty close...
The name came from a combination of 2 things:
1. Street Slang. Dunny can be like 'homie', 'money'...wattup Dun Dunny?! It's been around for a while and has even popped up in a few Jay-Z songs. I think I've been in Crown Heights too long...
and 2. DEVIL BUNNY! The original Dunny wasn't a mini firuge, but a big satan bunny with a skull face and a sickle. We just simplified it and kept the name.
It's got a ring to it I guess...
It was also important to have a name that is easy to say in many languages.
Dunny? Wakarimasuka?
Hmmmm maybe it's kinda lame but FatCap should renamed as either Fatty or FUNNY.

I dont think necessarily there may have been much of a concept behind the name despite the fact that dunny rhymes with bunny and they are bunny-like in shape, the same kinda goes for why labbit and not rabbit.

Fatcaps is a graf term for the spray nozzles on a can... So since these are essentially just that it makes perfect sense... C'mon guys... know your stuff.
