Pinion - My first Munny (GID PIC FINALLY ADDED)

Post by --[Zirca]-- » Wed Jan 31, 2007 8:05 pm

After viewing this board and checking out all the impressive customs, I figured I'd give it a go myself. I drew up a design and here's the outcome. I really enjoyed the experience and definitely plan on doing more. I have a few other unique ideas (at least I think they are) that will soon come to fruition. Any comments on this guy are welcome (good or bad).

No name yet. Was going to call him sprockets or corporal corporate, but I think I can do better. The gears in his head actually move. His right arm will be coming soon. Unfortunately it broke at the fastening joint right out of the box (when I pulled it off). The people at Kid Robot said they were going to send me a replacement (clearly a manufacturers defect), so hopefully it shows up soon. Glow pics coming soon

Thanks for the comments.

I would like to add glow pics, but I can't get any good shots. What camera setting is recommended and what brings out the best glow (ie. putting money in front of light for a long time)?

Thanks again,
Dan

Stick the munny beside a bright light for ten minutes to charge it up ;)

Does your camera have a +/- Symbol anywhere? this is your Exposure settings...set this to the highest + setting, and it will open the shutter for longer and allow more light to enter then lense when taking the pic in the dark....so you should get a nice clear pic ;)

Thanks for all the comments guys. I'm definitely hooked on making this dudes. Stay tuned for my next Munny & Dunny Custom. I'm just about to hit the paint stage. May post for some suggestions. This will be my first time using Sculpey and doing a full paint job.

how did you get the lines so clean?

did you tape it then exacto-knife it while it was on the munny?

is the black spray paint or did you use a sharpie marker to draw them on?

1. Just used car pin striping tape and cut it up to different sizes. Masking tape for the big sections (the eyes)

2. I only exacto'd the eyes after taping. The rest is just the pinstriping tape

3. krylon balck satin spray paint for plastic

I made some newb mistakes on this guy. If I were to do it again, I would have...

1) done a better job washing the Munny before starting/painting, as it took FOREVER for the paint to dry

2) Done one more coat of paint (opposed to the 2 I have on their now)

3) Clearcoated and waited longer to dry (so no finger prints got on it).

Lessons learned though.

Thanks for the comments,
Dan
