I love all this bike talk. Anyone else have pics of their ride(s) to share?

Man I love watching trial mountainbiking, they do some AMAZING things. The amount of skill needed is just incredible. CRAZY stuff!!!
I just like to take it easy on my mountainbike, I have a Trek Y-11 dual suspension carbon frame in mint condition. My fav ever, its actually a piece of art to me and i want it hung on the wall.

Yeah, trials is probably one of the funnest things to watch- those guys have some crazy skills...

Wow, a Y-11! I wanted one of those so bad back in the day, but at the time I could only afford the aluminum Y-5. Those carbon frames were like works of art- the shape was beautiful :)

Here are my two current rides:

I don't do enough "freeriding" these days to justify the big bike- I'm probably gonna get rid of it soon and get a lighter, shorter travel all-mountain frame and throw a single crown fork on it. I love my little dirt jumper. The fork is a bit tall, but I'm thinking about removing the spacer to drop the travel a inch or so. It also doubles as my street and cruise down to the beach bike :)

Hahaha spot on mate, back in the day i soooo wanted a y11, all I could afford at the time was the y3 ;) 1 less than the y5. However this y11 popped up for sale out of the blue, and i travelled the length of the country (mind you this was in Holland so it didnt take long) to get the bike :D. I'll post some pics on sunday when i get back from travelling.

You have some nice bikes man, that second bike almost looks trialish, do you do any?

CheersPiers

Yeah, I'd love to see pics of a Y-11- it will bring back memories :)

I'm not even close to being a trials rider. I'll screw around a bit in the street once in a while attempting a few basic moves, but I'll usually end up on my can wondering what I was thinking...

I used to ride a bmx, a GT ventirquo (sp?) the frame was fantastic, suited my height wonderfully, but after it got nicked I couldn't bring myself to replace it so I got a mountain bike, marin b-17. Unless it was a bmx, I doubt I could go back to fixed gear, I'd like to get a mountain bike with a low frame and only 9 gears, but going fixed after having so much choice is almost nonsensicle, I much prefer the adaptablity of the mountain bike, the long cross country rides or the short downhill pelts, it's good for it all. Especially seens as where I live is VERY hilly and there is alot of forest.

Finally got around to taking a few picks of my bike. I've uploaded them over on VeloSpace.org for all to see. HERE IT IS. I still have a few things to upgrade, but it's been fun and scary learning to ride with no brakes and a new frame geometry.

The SeaGreen coloured State Bicycle is my girlfriend's.
The Black/white coloured Globe/Specialized is mine.

Both freewheel, for the simple reason it's too dangerous to ride fixed where we live AND the cops "fine" the crap out of you if they see you riding without brakes :)

EDIT: Damn, last post above mine was 2006? LOL!

I ride a black IRO & a beat-up green beach cruiser!
Rode more in NYC on a khs, felt & linus, than I do now in LA. The distances here warrent gears, though I see plenty of fixies. Ive got my eye on another Felt.

I ride fixed gear most of the time but also have 2 geared bikes.

Not into "fashionable" bikes though, my fixed wheel bike looks like a road bike and I ride it like a road bike i.e. fast and over long distances, I'm no hill dodger either :p

Fixed isn't any more dangerous than a freewheel and you can run brakes with fixed you know :p

Technically running brakeless is not legal in the UK, you must have two independant braking systems, the fixed gear drivetrain and leg braking/skidding counts as one, you must have at least one other brake or you can get hit with a fine, if the police feel like enforcing it.

I've only ever went brakeless for a very short space of time, after I got knocked off ( the driver was at fault, he turned left without looking whilst I was alongside his rear passenger side door, forcing me to take the left turn at speed and ultimatelly nail the side of his car - to understand this, please remember in UK we drive on the left and cars are right hand drive, so I was between his car and the gutter on his left when he turned left) I felt that had I had a brake, then the impact would have been lessened as a skid and swerve was not sufficient. Luckily, I wasnt badly hurt (just a bit bruised up and grazed) and managed to ride the 50 miles back home, but it was a big shock. :p

I rode brakeless in NYC for a few months. Builds up leg strength & awareness pretty quick. Never quite got my skid-stop down. My track stand improved. :P

I've been riding fixed for about 4 years. Ride an 80's Motobecane in the winter and an IRO mark V Pro in the nicer weather. I'll post some pics one of these days.
