Really think the are 2 different artist with no connection. I think mr brainwash is pure pop culture nothing more nothing less. I actually think this is the best release since I started collecting a few :D months back

I've been doing some research and I truly believe that mr brainwash is yet another banksy prank. I think the whole film was set up by banksy in the first place and made to end up the way it did from the very beginning. He's not an artist or even trying to be, he is someone paid by banksy to put on a show and act like an egotistical maniac of an artist. And it worked.

I saw it summed up in an article best "mr brainwash is banksy's borat". 'nuff said

You're wrong IMO, esp considering what Ron English and Shep Fairey have said about him. Heard similar from Buff Monster too when I chatted to him. If it's a prank it's one that's being played very well.

The Borat comparison is wrong in that that's the same person playing different characters. This, if it is a prank, is more complex and involves far more collusion from numerous people.

And no he's not an 'artist' in many senses but he doesn't hide the fact he has people doing the work for him.

What kills me about him is that there are so many talented artists out there with great, original art that are relegated to the wings. If I had millions of dollars to waste and owned a giant empty TV studio, I could be an overnight success too. Heck I'll even throw in a broken leg just for fun.

Well as most of you are not fans, this might at least be seen as some good for the art community as a whole.....

Mr. Brianwash Artist Invitation 2011 Art Show

Never one to do something in traditional fashion, Mr. Brainwash has announced his largest and most ambitious Los Angeles exhibition to date. Set to open for artist installation on October 9 – October 12, 2011, the exhibition will continue to showcase works that immortalize popular culture and celebrate positivity. But this time, Mr. Brainwash will be opening the gates for artists around the globe by offering over 20,000 sq. ft. to showcase donated works, including art from Los Angeles based, The Seventh Letter Crew. In Mr. Brainwash’s Artist Invitation 2011 Art Show, artists from all genres will be invited to have their work cover the walls, ceiling, and floors. Beginning on Sunday, October 9th, the space will be open for three days for artists to install their work. The invitation is also open for artists worldwide to submit their work through mail, as well as in person. Each artist is allowed a maximum space of 4 ft. x 6 ft. Art submitted through the mail should be on paper, as it will be applied with paste, and should not contain nudity or profanity. Mr. Brainwash envisions the show to be a proper representation of the contemporary art world and thus, works will be on view for the duration of the exhibition and then will be destroyed on the final day. None of the work will be available for sale.

Mr. Brainwash’s Artist Invitation 2011 Art Show will span over 80,00 square feet of space on La Brea Avenue near Santa Monica Blvd. and is expected to be open at the end of October. For more information on the show or to pre-register for displaying your art, visit artshow2011.com or visit mrbrainwash.com.

He's giving people less than a week to get stuff submitted? Talk about an eleventh hour move...did he have a show scheduled that he had to end up canceling?

It reeks of desperation and I feel like he's begging for 'acceptance' into the community that, for the most part, thinks he's a fraud. I wonder what the agreement is for exhibiting in it - does he retain ownership of what's shown? That would be priceless - come display art...and when you leave I own the rights to the images and ideas!

I wonder if any artists will take direct shots at him...either way, the best thing about is that every almost every submission will top what he's capable of.

/end MBW rant :o

Hey Kevin -

From what I've heard (and for what its worth), he sent out a fairly large "open invitation" email to artists a while back and asked if they would also forward it to other arrtists they knew...the mention of it 4 days ago on La Weekly's blog was for patrons. But I seem to recall him mentioning it on that Morgan Spurlock "Day in the Life" bit a couple weeks ago at the end...

should be interesting to see what turns up!

Thanks for the added info Jim.

I'm sure the show will have some really good pieces in it, and at the end of the day I do applaud him for giving other artists an opportunity to exhibit their work that they might not otherwise have.

I'm sure there will be a few gems to come out of it! :D

haha!

No, no Noguchi yet. I was close to buying a knock off on the bay for $250 but then after conferring with a good friend of mine (art adviser) I decided against it, and am holding out either finding one at a reputable auction house OR splurging on a new one from Eames. They are pricey, but the new wood choice is sooooo sexy.

If only I could find one at an old church sale.... ;)

I love the irony that this dudes thread is in the fine art section. It's barely art, let alone fine

Not really feeling the Dreamboat print, so I am not going to try this go round and pretty pricey too. I do like the one of a kind versions but not in a position to spend 4k that is for sure.

Good luck!!

I don't have one either and with already having 7 MBWs, probably need to diversify a bit.
