this was sold at the aldrich for about 400-600 dollars I think

its on a small piece of paper roughly 6"x6" I believe

i had the chance to buy it but couldnt justify paying the price for its small size, and the sig was only on the backside

The KAWS sketch sold for $300, same price as all the other approx. 249 undercover art sale artists. Tickets to the event were $150. Basically $450 for a one of a kind piece of art if you found something you wanted which is an excellent price IMO.

I totally agree especially for an original Kaws sketch, at $450 I would have bought it without blinking.

Yeah definitely without a doubt.

I wanted to be at the undercover art sale really, really bad but I couldn’t be there due to a family wedding. I believe it’s a once every 4 years event so it will be a while to see if he contributes to the next one. I had intentions of buying my girlfriend a ticket as well and tutoring her on what to look for on the Kaws sketch so I could search one wall and she could search another  The pamphlet they sent out even showed a section of the Kaws sketch so anyone who knew enough to recognize it would just have to find it amongst all the other work on the wall.

I would have got there early to be right up front in line and stood there till the sale started. For a one of a kind piece with tons of provenance due to Kaws’s Aldrich exhibit that year it’d be a sweet piece to own no matter what. Plus the Aldrich was also silent auctioning a Yellow Kawsbob print that night as well. I have no clue what it sold for.

So how does it work at the show to purchase a piece?

You go in looking for the piece, find it, then how does one claim it so no one else gets it?

All the art is signed on the back so technically you don't know who did the piece. You only find out after you buy it. Obviously with the Kaws sketch its clear for those who know his work. I'm pretty sure each piece gets a ticket that you grab to purchase the work. Its basically a first come first serve art sale that from what I heard gets pretty intense but is also very fun.

Do they do this annually? I remember an email about it, but it seems like I got it more than a year ago.

If I had the dough, I'd grab one! Definately way better than the yellow or red kawsbob

Are there any fans of Kawsbob?

I don't get it... Its non-iconic, boring and repetitive ....

I'd certainly rate the fund-raiser sketch from the Aldrich, though.

I'm a Kawsbob fan! But I have never seen an episode of Spongebob the cartoon, so yes the image is not iconic to me other than for is cartoon look.

I just really love the flow and movement the Kb character has, the paintings are all so expressive, plus the colors in these new pieces are amazing!
