I used to like him. A LOT. I agreed with his message, his methods, and his anonymity. I even racked his books. Then, for whatever reason (probably money, it's pretty hard to say no to tens of thousands of dollars) he started selling out (in my eyes - know a lot of people disagree with this point). Since then, I've seen him do commissions for crazy money, ruin a man's home, take advantage of the same demographic of art appreciators that make up the majority of his followers (call it a social experiment if you will, i'm over it) on purpose to make money, and start going against the rules in graf which i believed to be hard and fast rules (apparently, to some they're not - i've literally fought for them, so to me they are). Sacred rules like Burners>Throwups>handstyles>stencils>stickers, you don't tag people's homes, you do your own pieces. That's pretty much it. Now all i see is him trying to cash in on other people's balls, like making a print of the tesco riot, when the people who deserve the respect are the ones throwing cocktails at big corporation. I'd guess the reason i'm so incoherent when i talk about it is that it really hit me hard to see an icon go bigtime. I feel like I've said what i can really say, and that it's all opinions anyway. Also, some of the reason i got so p!ssed recently was that ish about a kid getting dropped on his head for having a different opinion and syntax than the usual boardie. Not really cool at all, and it's easy to say ish about a person's physical nature over the internet. I'll leave the banksy fans to admire banksy now. Totally respect your opinion, but that man's home was a water reservoir/storage of some kind that he made his home? I mean, it DID looked like an elephant ! if you can live in the desert in a water storage he wont have much trouble finding other suitable place for him, and maybe Banksy even did him a favor, living in a rusty environment gives you a condition called red lung, very painful and I dont think his HMO will cover that As for the sellout part, come on, the dude provided us plenty of hints of how crazy the art world has been since the 60's , he is just part of the madness, Dali made clothes, furniture, perfumes, designed interiors, sculptures, paintings, directed movies, gave his name to 3 restaurants (of course got paid to allow that) Picasso, the same thing , he even designed prints for scarfs and purses At least Bansky confronts people with things like this:
