If you're new to the board, you might not know that there have been several sellers that didn't come through over the last few months. Many of the members are now nervous about buying from people they don't know. Here are some suggestions to help make your first sales go smoothly.

1. Post a picture of the item and include a piece of paper with your name on it in the picture. This will let people know you really have the item you're selling. To include a picture, first upload it to the net somewhere, and click the "Img" button on the message composition screen, and enter the address of the picture. Try to avoid gigantic pictures, nothing bigger than 100K.

2. If you're so new you can't post pictures yet, post the URL of the picture, without the http:// at the beginning, and with extra spaces....like this:
www . flickr . com / blah / blah / blah . jpg

3. If you have a friend who is a long-time member, consider coordinating so that he or she can post an immediate followup, vouching for you.

4. If you live in an area where there are lots of collectors, try to arrange an in-person trade.

5. People may ask you to send the item first. This is a good way to build a reputation, but you should probably ask the buyer for references or good trader feedback posts.

6. If possible, make a couple of purchases first so that you can get some good trader feedback.

7. Don't be surprised if you get some negative followup posts about being a new seller. If you do, be calm and don't get defensive. That will go a long way towards building a reputation.

8. Be prepared to send the item as soon as a sale closes, and use delivery confirmation at the least. If you're in the US, http://usps.com can help you figure out what the postage will be ahead of time.

9. Delivery confirmation information is usually not entered into the USPS system until the item is delivered, so it doesn't provide online tracking. Your stamped delivery confirmation receipt is your proof that you mailed it, so hold onto it. If you and your seller want a more trackable delivery, use a different service like UPS or FedEx, or ask at the post office for a more trackable delivery option.

would a noob like me have an easier time selling on ebay? i'm not a vinyl collector, i bought two closed box pieces a couple years ago. one's a fowler snorse..the other is a S2 3" deph dunny. i'd like to turn it into cash, but i can see there being an issue with my first sale here being over a $100. i'd have no problem mailing it before payment to someone with good feedback.

advice.
