The actual feedback system like heatware sounds good but could be hard to enforce

my two cents

-need much clearer rules on selling non-toy related items.

-i personally feel the "make me an offer" threads should be banned altogether. even with a starting price, its still turns messy and is unfair for most buyers.

Certainly willing to consider it...what do you think we should "cut loose"?

personally i dont see the point in price check, somethings worth as much as people will pay for it.

couldnt tips for new sellers be taken into the rules thread ??

and problems and feedback could be made into a single thread.

so make an offer sales or sales with no prices are not allowed but auctions are allowed, that makes sense

Heya folks,

We're trying to strike a middle ground here...based on the popularity of make an offers, we didn't want to ban them completely, but by requiring a reasonable starting price, we're trying to help buyers get an idea of what is expected.

If we went with a format only allowing fixed-price sales, one of two things would happen:
1. Everyone starts selling at fixed priced
2. Lots of things end up being put up on eBay instead of here

I think #2 is more likely, and I don't think that's to the advantage of buyers here. eBay auctions are open to a wider audience, so in general that will make the prices go higher.

At a future time, if board members overwhelmingly want it, we could switch to always requiring prices.

this is actually to everyone's benefit. i.e., if i want to sell a mr. bunny for $1000 and it doesnt move, i lower price i set originally until it does sell. thats how most of my sales and other sales go anyway.

banning "make an offer" or "taking offers" won't hurt the board; if anything it will help make it more honest. community feedback is often unspoken... if your item doesn't sell, either the price is too high or there is no demand. after x amount of days, why not dump it on the bay and try to recoup the costs?

Just an FYI...some posts here have broken the rules in a way that can't be fixed, usually by listing something that is also for sale on eBay. Even if I posted a followup message or PM'ed the poster, the information would still be there.

When I find posts like this, I just delete them.

idea:
How about once all the "I had a good trade with so&so" posts are tallied up onto that first page, you delete all posts in the thread and start over again?

It'll save it from becoming unmanageable and everyone will know it's current.. (I mean, I know I got more than 5 in there!)

eckotyper is managing the compilation in the thread, so it's up to him how he wants to do it. I can see advantages and disadvantages to clearing out the posts.

He posted yesterday that he would be updating the totals today, but he hasn't done so yet...keep an eye out for it and see whether it squares with what you think it should be.
(Which, by my count, is 7, plus 1 more that won't be counted because the poster didn't put your name at the beginning of a line.)

I have to agree that the sudden onset of several hundred dollar miami huck dunnys inundating the sales pages is just crazy.

I mean the prices they are asking for are really high and would probably be better off sold to eBAY. The only ones who are going to fall prey to those prices are new members or desperate members.

Can those threads be immediately closed? I know it's more work for the MODs of the forum but there's just too many threads degenerating into unpleasantness.

How about you have to be a member for certain amount of time before you are allowed to participate in the BST?

going by thread count alone sucks because you can very easily/falsely run up your thread count without participating in the community...
time means you've been around a while at least to see how we do things around here..
or time + thread count somehow..?
I don't know, just throwing out some ideas.

I'm thinking 3 or even 6 months would weed out most of the crap sellers/flipper/newbs who are just here soley to try and get the :expensive: from the real collectors.

I am perfectly happy to discuss a "no flipping" rule.

Please post suggestions for a definition of flipping. It has to be objective so that it can be applied clearly and uniformly to all sales. And it has to be simple because people are so good at following directions.
