Ya,

I too wonder how come there wasn't too much PR on these guys. I personally like these figures, it's nice to see something different, with a lineup of a bunch of artists who have not yet had the opportunity to have their work on figs.

The thing is, they're not different. This has been done time and again. Plus there is a reason why Dunny's, Qee's and even Be@bricks have hung around. Because even without paint on, they look cute. I don't feel the same way looking at the Dudebox DIY's. Maybe time will change that(if they have it).

Hmm,

I respect your opinion, but what's not different about it?

You could apply the same "paint job" to a dunny (or fatcap, or munny etc etc with minimal modification) and have something that looks generally the same. The new platform has not been utilised to its best. Those Jinny Bitbots did the same thing, they all literally look like someone took an illustrator file someone prepared for a Dunny and then wrapped it around a new form with little thought.

I don't think its that the design looks like a previous design, it's just.... they are doing what KR did years ago.

In my opinion.

Well apart from getting different artist's in. You tell me what's different about these?
Yes, they're new shapes, but are they any better than what we have already? I don't think so.

dudebox is a very off putting name.

...

but to look on the bright side, their QC couldnt possibly be as shotty as KR. I cant tell you the last time I purchased a proper piece from KR, everything looks like it was thrown together by a blind person

The number of initial offerings seems like a lot. Dunno if that's good or bad, on the one hand, more product means something for everyone. On the other hand, the wide range of product means a less-focused identity for a new company. Likely this will all shake out over time.

You see this a lot of new bushiness and brands, they try to do too much at launch and end up failing. There are three shapes/platforms in one series and two series? Most of the designs are " :doubt: eh" Instead of setting down and making the hard decisions(chopping out designs, sticking to ONE SIGNATURE platform, and focusing the release) they drop the kitchen sink on people and get a great big thud!

UK based company + UK based artists that have friends & fans capital = buzz and heat and social networking blasts. Excitement was something VERY lacking in this drop. The first PEEP of this brand was when somebody posted that they used "Most Wanted" on their packaging. If you had Squink, JPK, Map-Map, Dok A(head liner), added to or replacing some of current line up and you have a winner. Looks like they spent more time planning the party than they did on the toys!!

Live and learn. Let's see what the future holds for this company. Not a great start IMO, I could Dudebox get tossed up on the pile of failed platform toys...

would like to see some pics of these if you can,and also hear your overall opinion as someone who has these toys in hand.

I think they look pretty interesting as well,i dont think the three platform idea is that bad,if they're looking to get other more established artists involved later on having the choice of three different platforms to choose from might be quite appealing. i dont think the case of if these platforms are better or worse than whats already available is relevant, they're just different and i'm sure a lot of artists would like a new shape or character to try some stuff out on. I think it's more about what the artists can bring to these platforms that matters.

The first rule of a crowded market is don't launch unless you're launching with something jaw-dropping. These are pretty good, but nothing that makes me sit up and take notice. Nothing that makes me desperate for a mule to get me one.

No truer words have ever been spoken. I think this is a great rule of thumb in general, but definitely applies to Dudebox' launch.

This is just me personally, but I didn't see any must have pieces I'd want to add to my collection. But that isn't to say there are a lot of collectors out there who will want to pick up a few blind boxes or some of the larger scale figures.

But regardless of that, I still think you have to that mentality when you're about to launch a company by releasing that many figures all at once. If a company releases one figure and it's not your style then no big deal, you wait to see what else they come out with and what adjustments they make. When a company launches 20+ figures and there's nothing jaw-dropping then the question becomes how do they draw in market share and adjust things when they've already released almost as many toys as many established toy companies.

Totally agree with this. Why they didn't go for a few more established names, I really don't know. I know new artists need to be given the chance, But you still need some old favourites, to give it all a bit of gravitas.

Thank you for quoting me...sorry for all the typos. My cube is right next to the Boss's office

Well that's the thing, JPK, Squink, Map-Map are not HUGE established names. In fact they're still up in comers one could argue.

They should hire me to consult for S2!!

Got the package today,

Bought 3 BBs from each series from Dudebox

and only got one plat form out of the six, which were
2 Ninjas (Dust)
2 Attaboys,
Boy (STBN) and Girl (Sebestien Pie) which was kinda disappointing,

But I also picked up two more of each series and a big boy from Rotofugi
and was very happy because thats where I recieved 3 of the Bunnys and one of the other plat form,

Chauskoskis,
Mark Gmehling
Gradheart
and another Dust.

Thought it was pretty stupid that I received only one platform form from Dudebox
But I like the different platforms, mainly the bunny. The only couple issues is that one alot of the figures the hands are a little to wide so when I tried to put the sword in one of the ninja's hands it would just fall out and when I was putting the milk in attaboy's his arm completely fell off. I personally would also just of had one series come out instead of two at the same time and mainly focus one one big platform per time not 4 with two of them being the same platform.

But anyways here's a picture of them all displayed.

Image

Was a bit dificult to display them because of the different platforms so I just put em on risers and they seem pretty nice like that so it'll do

I think the Pete Fowler series will be the first real benchmark, good people involved.

gross.. these are not my kind of thing at all, although having said that the fat bunny is kinda cool would love to see some customs of it by some very popular artists.

I still haven't seen one up close to get an idea on QC, and I'm not really a fan of mini-figures as much as I used to be. That said, I do like a bunch of the European artists they're working with, I think the Dude shape is fun, and I like some of the customs I've already seen from guys like FAKIR & MAPMAP.

The series names ... especially 'Most Wanted' ... leave a bit to be desired. :/
