wwwetworks -- My first impressions of why they did not begin with SAFS was also because of licensing. Also it would overshadow most of 'his' bot designs -- easily.

Love the weld line details on that Krote pic.

awesome. some d!ckbag deleted the comment I left in wwwetworks custom thread stating it was one of two threads that kept me coming back to the outpost.
I was well within the guidelines of contribution.

I just don't get it. I can relate with the stern shoulder tap thing. put tape on the floor if you dont want people too close. its a polite way of stating your boundaries. if they step over the line, give them them the shoulder tap.
the guy flys in, brings a gift and gets the dad face.

The thing about trying to tighten your grip on something as it slowly gets out of control (in your opinion of course), is that rather than returning things to a state of calm, the sensation of choking just causes a wild panic and more upheaval instead.

If this is your first internet PR rodeo, its easy to let the perceived power you've been bestowed as the answer to everything rather than simply allowing dialogue, no matter how irksome occur -- unless it crosses serious boundaries of death threats, paedophilia, and the like.

What did I tell ya? The official board is going to implode, or have to be closed. It's getting far, far too out of control with OG's now speaking up, dissenting there, and leaving or getting banned. For too long, those mods have enjoyed a really ugly level of "lording over" people, it doesn't encourage happiness and love, that's for sure. It actually defeats the boards purpose of drumming up support and love of the product. they'd be better off if people never found that board or knew of it as far as sales go. They'd be better off with just a publicly promoted blog.

I'm with wwwetworks- love the toys, hate the man. (or in my case, I guess it's be indifferent concerning the man) It's perfectly ok to enjoy quality design and not worry if the designer is a sh!theel. Karma (or whatever you want to call it) will take care of his treatment of others in the end, you don't have to worry about it or sweat it. Just be glad you are a good person, and have good discernment, and can know right from wrong yourself. It's always better to care and be decent. That's a hell of a good take-away for everyone, and it shows even more to me now after the kind, friendly support I have gotten from people here since my little "vent post" from last night- just knowing there are good people here that feel like I do, and like this funky toy stuff too makes me feel a lot better. It definitely helps to know I'm not alone and have friends here that are like-minded. I want to thank everyone that showed me some love and support over what's going on in my life. The insight is greatly appreciated. I'm still having a hard time, but I have some new things to think about and a transformed outlook to appreciate as I get myself through this.

I may not even bother to upkeep my customs thread at the official forum- I don't know that I really care to add "value content" to their website. I may just share my customs here, and create a permanent gallery on the domain I own (http://www.one-sixth.com)

Now I gotta have some lunch, work on my display house, and dress BOILER CAGE....

Rick I wish I could've read your post but anyway I'm more than thankful for taking the time to comment on my thread bro, can't wait to make some awesome collab with you :)

ok for the record and to clear some things cause a lot of guys are messaging me asking me why I left the forum, It's not only because I got tapped in the shoulder at the show for being close to the art, it's also about the guy ranting to combat flippers when there is this guy with 26 helpers at the show full of exclusive sets and they are not doing anything about it, and there's a bouquet outside from a guy named goodshipped, and I'm also tired of these rump kissers who got first dibs on everything exclusive when IMHO should be fair and equal to the legion, I left the forum because I'm afraid that if I say something wrong and a few mods don't like it, I will be labeled or dismissed, they've been firm in saying that the place is the temple of the big guy so it's either you like it or stay away from it, clearly I made my choice

and I respect both negative and positive comments here without the mods policing every word, to me that what makes this place special, and it's always a good thing meeting new people, sharing stuff and what not, so to the guys who continue to support my work and appreciate everything that I've done, I did not leave you, I just went to a different house ;) now let's do some awesome customs here :)

Drizz- I hope things get better for you dude. Hang in there, bud! PM coming your way.

Ok. Since my last attempt to play devils advocate and discuss the yin and yang of the 2 forums went over like a ton of internet bricks i will be more focused this time and just ask 2 questions directly....

-If you were AW what would you do now in regards to the forum? Is it really a big deal or does it just seem like it is to us?

-How much impact do you think any of this drama has on the company's ACTUAL bottom line? Is it always gonna be 10 out of 100 people that have a problem with something or could if ever become more?

I mean not to drag this topic down further, but the mention of 'karma' up above made my Luckett eyes twitch in that theres no such thing. People get away with being sh!theels because a lot of the time sheep know only how to follow. I personally quit buying the man's direct produce in the forms of prints, books, comics, etc, but the toys are still a group effort and hopefully a few more releases of them to go and I can bow out with a "complete" collection vaguely remembering the glory days regardless.

What should be done with the forum? I dunno. What can be done? It is what it is, a failed experiment in trying to control the chaos of the internet. Other than a public admission that an enforced house of positivity only was a terrible idea running completely counter to the supposed punk "fuk da world" mentality of the company, theres not much you can do. A dragging into line of the moderators or whatever and basically schooling them on internet politics that you only use a ban when someone starts raving and losing their mind hurling sh*t onto the walls, not just when an opinion displeasing to you leads to lines of conversation that aren't prosaic smiles, perhaps?

Does it hurt the bottom line? We're not really the bottom line are we anymore? Metal Gears, Real Steel bots, Halo figures, Portal characters... this is all majorly enticing stuff to the retail world at large. Stuffs gonna sell out regardless. What the slow and agonising death of the playground does effect however is shave strips off that ego. No longer is there a long standing audience of more senior chaps and chapettes with well versed taste cheering and well wishing to every single slight thing announced. Now instead theres mostly only new pups wet behind their ears and the easily impressed as the vocal audience available. You want your peers and like minded individuals out there clapping, not seals.

This is where karma doesnt work, but the human equivalent of "what goes around, comes around" does. If you neglect the most ardent and passionate fans, act like a d!ck over easily solved issues and more, it all adds up and those glorious golden days are gone forever; besmirched all the sh*t that fell from the many easily averted storms.

If I were him, I'd close it, find a new way to reach out to fans. That board is just not a productive marketing tool, and that's obviously all it's for. He'd do better with a blog that contains a Q and A section with real shipping updates, and and to also have a good english-fluent PR person available to answer personal email questions. Look at companies like Sideshow and Hot Toys- SS has a weekly email with info and shipping updates, HT has a facebook page to connect, and that allows them full control over what's posted, but they can still answer questions. that forum worked when it was under a thousand fervent fans, but as it grows, That approach just isn't going to work.Wood may enjoy branding himself a maverick "we do it different", etc, but as he reaches a wider audience and takes on licenses, he is going to HAVE to become more traditional.

I have no idea how it affects the bottom line, but as the "vidyagame" people join the fold, it's going to matter more. they are going to be vocal and pissy if he acts like a jerk. I agree with wwwetworks, that little line in his blog contrasted to the flipping they ALLOWED at RVHK is going to get a number of people pissy. I really don't care to see the figurehead of a company I follow treat people that way. It's ignorant.

I have a display of my customs ThreeA bots going on right now in Winter Garden, Florida (if anyone is planning a visit to Disney any time soon.) Winter garden is like 12 miles north of there.

Who knows how it will affect the bottom line. I suspect very little. I think most people enjoy it as a hobby and not a crazy passion like some of us, so they avoid the drama or don't care about it or just don't put any serious thought to every little thing that is said. Probably a much healthier attitude in the big picture. I wish I could be more like that. I'm trying too. I'm just going to keep my friends no matter where they choose to spend their internet time.

Hey Tobor,

My thoughts on your questions are:

#1) I dont think Ash will do anything to fix the forum, he probably doesnt think about it as much and doesnt have the time or interest to be as involved as it sounds like he used to be partly because of the growth of it and just you cant have arguements or discussions with 1000 people a day and still have a life.
I think all the drama is a big deal to those of you who were involed in the early "golden age" of 3A. I can understand why it would suck to see all that go down the drain, but I missed out of it so I'm sure it doesnt affect me the same way it affects the OG fans.

#2) I dont think the drama has any impact on their bottom line in the short run as it seems like there are a whole new bunch of collectors ready to fill in the ranks, and they are now replacing the more picky old school fans with new fans from all the new liscensed products so they have enough income to be able to lose some customers ad keep going the way they are for quite awhile.

It would take a major financial mistake for the company to even feel it at this point it seems. I thought that might have been the Reel Steel line, but it appears even a bad movies characters will sell if done well enough.

Unfortunately we are pissin in the wind. I mean look at how many fans hated the phantom menace and it still went on to make tons o cash and spawn sucessful video games comics toys and cartoons.
Once a property reaches a certain public awareness it can roll on innertia for awhile regardless of mistakes along the way.
Plus a lot of casual collectors arent as picky as others and they will put up with a lot more stuff that guys like us on message boards that are really into it won't.

I have a display of my customs ThreeA bots going on right now in Winter Garden, Florida (if anyone is planning a visit to Disney any time soon.) Winter garden is like 12 miles north of there.

About the 3A Outpost, what I will really miss if its gone are all the customs galleries and the pictures. All that great work that the community posts there is inspiring, at least for me, plus all the friends I made along the way.
If its going to affect the bottom line, I really doubt it. With all the new licenses there is a lot of people coming in buying everything, which is not a bad thing in itself, since I really like 3A stuff, I don't want it to go away. What I don't like its their attitude towards fans and paying customers. Actions speak louder than words, and they don't care, at least not the ones who run the mill. Shipping times keep slipping, flippers galore and terrible communication that only worsens the whole deal.
