museum glass is worth it in my option. Mainly because it doesn't look like there is glass there at all.

I was going to buy the dark one of those be@rbricks from him but passed. He seemed really cool, also been a long standing boardie, surely something has happened to him, seems out of character. But you never know....

Just dropped mine off at the framers, and I need some help. I ended up double mounting it, with a flat white frame. White on white on white, all 'digital' white, the whitest you can get. I'm 100% positive with all my decisions I made except the mounting. Should I have done single or double mounting? It's not too late to change my order. Opinions would be greatly appreciated!

Frame color will be based on your preference and the decor of your home. White frame is good if you have multiple prints in your room so that no particular piece has too much weight than the others, just like an art gallery.

The photos below are double float mounted and the print is raised for the matboard by ~15mm. Hard to tell in these photos, but they look awesome in person. Float mount is great imo.

Thanks for the input. Doesn't float mounting require some sort of adhesive, lowering the value of the piece? Great pics!

lupend - My only suggestion would be you could save some money with only one mat if they're both white and have a white core. Otherwise, I'm interested to see how all white comes out.

There's some adhesive touching this print if you frame it no matter what. Being full bleed, I think you'd lose too much image if you used strips or corners. I'm thinking floating is the way to go because of this.

Ya I was debating between 1 or 2 mats. The money isn't much of an issue, I'm more concerned which will look better. What do you think will look nicer, 1 or 2 mats?

My framer is sink mounting, which uses no adhesive. The only downside is that I will lose about 1/8 inch all the way around. Is this something you would recommend? I liked the idea because the piece will retain its value because there is no adhesive to lower the quality.

Being that the image bleed do you really want to sink mount it? Wouldn't the mat press against the print and bleed under the mat? If done right they use i believe and can be wrong rice paper to float mount prints and it usually leaves no marks. I have most of my prints on float mount from a framer that does a lot of high end gallery in New York City so I trust them as this is consider cheaper art to what they do.. and they always wear white glove so I'm not too worried.

Yes I would lose a small bit (1/8 inch) all the way around. My framer convinced me that using a float mount would decrease the value, but the more I think about it, I don't even see myself selling this any time in the future. It's my first KAWS print after all! Would you mind PM'ing me the # to this NYC framer so I could maybe talk with them? It would be great to get another opinion from them. If the damage using a float mount is none or minor, I would definitely want to consider it. Thanks for your help!

Not familiar with sink mounting, please explain. Maybe I just know it by another name.

I double checked the print and you should have 1/8" to spare no problem. I was thinking the signature was right along the bottom, but there's space for sure.

As for one or two mats, if you don't care at all about keeping costs down then go for two like you had to begin with. Both being white, it won't look much different but the second mat will add depth for sure.

Sink mounting is basically where they build a surround around the print or art work in the exact dimensions of the piece being framed to hold it in place side ways and vertically, then they place a mat with a smaller window on top to hold the image in place front to back. Basically, you wouldn't need adhesives or those corner things that stop the print moving and overlap with the mount can be small but there will still be contact between mount and image surface at the edges.

Not sure how well this works on thinner stuff like prints, but I have seen it a few times with canvas boards (canvas stretched over a board rather than a wood frame) like the link below

http://www.logangraphic.com/blog/2011/1 ... vas-board/

I see, thanks. That seems all sorts of tricky with a thin piece of paper.

Talked to my framer today and asked them to put my original order (sink mount/ double white matted/ white frame) on hold. Now I'm 99% sure I want to float mount, even if I have to use adhesive. It just looks so good! I'll post pictures when I get it back.

Honestly, I think some cats are a bit too paranoid with hinging prints and the damage it'll do to the print and/or the print's value. It's not like all these framers are drymounting or stapling your prints down. Any quality framer is just going to use a couple paper hinges, or a couple pieces of archival tape that are pretty much completely reversible should you choose to unframe at some point. I use corners whenever possible, but that calls for the right print with proper borders and whatnot.
