does the 4 footers have a subtle lean on them? is this because of the ambient temp? some of the 4 footers i've seen looks like they lean one way and isn't symetrical.

so as far as the 5yl goes, were they all 1000 or just the OG? i'm pretty sure the others at least are a run of 500. also as far as the bronze busts go, give me run sizes, colors, etc and i'll add it all to the list.

What do you guys think is a fair price for a black Zooth mint in an unopened bag?

I have one that I'm thinking about selling, but I'm not sure what to ask for.

Thanks.

Kaws Twins

Post by Domina » Sat Apr 25, 2009 10:40 am

My Kaws collection is tiny.

I have the Mono twins,... a black jp and a full set of the key chains.
Oh and I have one of the bus stop sets and the tiny mini car set.

So Just some of the small stuff.

WE are hoping to ad a S-trooper and Vader soon.

WE also would kill to find a fair price on a dissection companion or any of the push heads at a great price.
My Girl recently discovered the banks as is hoping to get a set of those.

I think the dissection and twins are my B and C favorites after A a 4 footer that I already now know I can't afford to start chasing.

I recently got to see several companion customs.

And just thought How decadent to be able to take a pricey fig and turn it into a one off.

LIke the Krusty the Clown custom Companion.. Amazing stuff.

Like I said before. If you really wanna get an insight into KAWS and find out production #'s, pickup Super 7 issue #14. KAWS doesn't really do interviews and this one is special.

Or just find Pirovino's or Desized(can't remember which) thread and it will tell all.

This is like the fourth our fifth time i've seen a thread like this here and none can compare to the realness of the OG thread.

Good job Gaz, very envious of that chum you have!

Keep in mind people that his list is Production Toys, this does not include 1-offs or OG's.

Kaws Astroboys are signed on the foot "Kaws '03"

There were 13 made (8 black with different coloured eyes and 1 each of 5 other colours). They are resin and approx 2ft high. Nigo had the coloured ones and Everlast had 2 of the black ones. I don't know about the others. If you could find one then pick a number and add at least four zeros to it to get an idea of cost.

I think the astroboys and bronzes should probably be classed as art rather than toys. The pushead was an edition of 150 and made of vinyl (painted bronze) it is definitely a toy. All others were released in numbers of 30 or less and were presented and sold within the context of art rather than designer toys.

Just so you can channel your efforts. You probably have more chance of getting a set of 4 footers than ever getting near any of the proper bronzes. Prove me wrong and you will be a very happy bunny.

There was a prototype astroboy floating around. It is grey and about 8" high and a bootleg. As far as I remember an artist made it then tried to sell it to Kaws. He declined and it ended up in someones collection.

Also here are some numbers:

The cat banks were released in editions of 400 per colourway not 200.

The twins (3 colourways)
mono - 500
pink - 500
glitter - 150

Dissected OG was edition of 1,000, other 2 were 500 each.

And here is a timeline of companion releases I posted in another thread:

1999: 99 companions (og, black, mono)
2004: 5yl companions (og, black, mono, gid green, gid blue)
2005: pushead companions (black, silver, gid green, handpainted green) plus bronzes
2006: Dissected companions (og, black, mono)
2007: Bronze accomplice (2 colours, 10 of each)
2007: Bronze dissected (2 colours, 10 of each)
2007: 5yl 4ft (og) 100*
2008: 5yl 4ft (grey) 100*
2008: 5yl 4ft (black) 100*

* There were supposedly 100 of each 4ft but not all of them made it to market due to QC. Apparently the mold broke during production of the black one so these are probably the most limited.

Have you ever wondered which toys are the rarest? The blue 5yl was cheaper in the aftermarket and several have been customised. This means that potentially there are now less of these available than other 5yls!

I have seen several custom 5yls, pusheads and a few chums. Has anyone seen any other Kaws toys that have been improved/destroyed?

You should probably credit desized as you appear to have hoisted his list!

Hope this info is useful.
