WTF is up with everyone doing bunny toys? I mean comon, I get wanting to make a mini BB platform but why do so many insist on bunnys... Yes we have the dunny isnt the enough? Think of another animal for christsake. Ok rant A over, rant B initiate. I hate these. I love that some of the artists are getting attention and some look good but for the most part they look crappy... No doubt the co. will go under, just not enough $$ possibly coming in. IDK who did the ninja, but it looks like garbage

I still haven't seen one up close to get an idea on QC, and I'm not really a fan of mini-figures as much as I used to be. That said, I do like a bunch of the European artists they're working with, I think the Dude shape is fun, and I like some of the customs I've already seen from guys like FAKIR & MAPMAP.

The series names ... especially 'Most Wanted' ... leave a bit to be desired. :/

those are some geat customs!! cant wait to see more too :D

I like that I got lumped in with that pic of the convo.

I think dudebox is going after a different audience than those already associated with the scene, or at least I hope that is their idea. They will have a tough go of it trying to crack into the already saturated market of designer toys. I am guessing they are going for a larger audience.

Make the designs similar to those already out but drop the price point, initially release them in the "it" stores, then move to mass. Something tells me with that much money behind them they see a bigger picture than just designer toy stores, and audiences that are already jaded by the 'scene'.

I think it's fair to say "Luke-warm" has been the reception here and in general for dudebox. If they actually stick with it and come out with a series 2 maybe they can grow on people and make this happen.

One thing nobody has said(maybe they did but I missed it) is that their platform shapes are not "cute". Lot's of guys collect dunnys so I'm not trying to get all fancy with ya'll. Fat Bunny, the robot shape, and there is a third correct? SEE! not memorable!!

NOTE to Dudebox: If you do not have a shape or design that will make a normal girls shriek "How cute!" you're going to be in for a short life cycle.

Anybody remember Yoka Bears? They Launched with Buff Monster, Huck, Arvik Instand, and I think Kozik...Where is S2?

Big Buddy: Woe, Scribe, Jesse Hernandez, and Kano amoung others...Where they at?

Actually, yoka bears are still going strong in China, where Adfunture is based. They weren't popular here for some reason, but they're still big over there. They released the Yoka Taiwan series last year. You can get BBs from MPH.

They must have been really creeped out by Critterbox.

Anyway, if anyone has doubles from the BBs to get rid of, hit me up.

I'm late to this discussion but I thought I'd weigh in...

I guess I don't understand why people dislike Dudebox so much. I think it was a really strong launch. Especially compared to other similar product launches--even compared to the KR's Dunny launch. I like the euro-centric list of artists.

I also like how pro-active they've been in reaching out to new artists. If you consider KR is the "A" list for artists, then there's gotta be a place for new talent to cut their teeth. Three years ago KR wouldn't have even talked with JPK. A couple of releases with some other companies and he becomes a solid producer. Now he's getting that action. If it wasn't for competition there would be like 5 Dunny artists for every series and not a lot of innovation in design and production.

Maybe Dudbox doesn't pick up steam in the US. Maybe there's a really strong market in Europe and they don't need a big presence in the US. Toy2R sells great numbers in Asia. A lot of what they do is specific to that market. Artoyz puts out great product and I really like their Elements series. I with all companies nothing but amazing success for the future, because that gives me plenty of options when it comes to spending my dollar.

Truth!

@turdhole: Word! Haha!

I get the whole argument over disliking or liking something, we're all free to choose, but there's some serious anger coming out of some of you cats :goodman: If ya don't dig it, don't support it. But I don't see the horrible things some of you guys are predicting (or wishing for, lol). They're definitely doing what has taken some of the established companies years to get around to. You guys ask for new names, fellow up and coming customizers (in some cases from this very community) to be given an opportunity, and for someone willing to take a chance on what others are neglecting, and here you have it.

I understand, it's not a Dunny, or a Munny, or a [insert another iconic platform here], but they're pretty solid designs (IMO, although I'm not the only one who thinks so) and I can't wait to see more artists like MAp-MAp, JC Rivera, Chauskoskis, Fakir & many others from these very boards lay some dope designs on these new platforms. Mad props to them or anyone else that decides to make a big move like this in hopes of changing the scene up a bit. There's plenty of room for the fans and consumers to decide for themselves :)

I actually think it's kind of funny that people keep referring to "the dude" as another bunny design. There's about 20 different animals that it resembles more than a bunny. I guess Dunnies have us conditioned to see bunnies wherever we look! Ultimately what the figure actually is is what the artist attempts to make us see--a bunny, a badger, a piraterobotninjazombie, or simply an abstract 3d canvas to explore.

Mad props to them or anyone else that decides to make a big move like this in hopes of changing the scene up a bit. There's plenty of room for the fans and consumers to decide for themselves :)

Some good stuff here(See above). From the posts I have read and posted myself I feel that the comments are for the most part fair and reasonable and not just "Hating" on Dudebox for not being KR. Like I said before; IMO the launch was weak, lacked focus, and the execution was poor. Amongst numerous problems previously posted about they failed to incorporated a few fan favorites such as Fakir, JPK, JC Rivera, Southern Drawl, Otto Bjornik, ect* there would at least be a buzz and heat about the release instead of the "Plop" that it did make with a line up of "who?"

Even with a great line up success is not a lock! Bic Buddies & Yoka jump to mind. They opened with great line ups, mixed with fan favorites and up and comers. Where are they now?
This goes back the the "Brand" of Dudebox. What is Dudebox? Who is the Dude? With 2 series, 2 sizes, 3 platforms, and I might be missing something else to add to the pile but it's all over the place! Who knows what Dudebox is!!?? 10 people could point to 10 different things and they'd all be right...I guess! A MadL is a MadL. A Dunny is a Dunny. A bottle of Coke is a bottle of coke. You see LV and you think of Louis Vouton or the Gucci G...you know what's up Properly branded.

You gotta give the people what they want! Well in Marketing I guess you have to tell people what they want but you can't do that when your message/product is muddled and confusing.

* I have seen a few customs by other artists for the open.

I said a couple of people were spewing straight anger, I didn't say everyone was :goodman: I think someone already answered your questions about yokas and whatnot. They're still going strong overseas :) You may not dig a new company making way, their platforms, their lack of instant recognition, but I likes what they're doing and I know they'll keep trying to do what others aren't. This ain't about what type of soda tastes the best, or which detergent gets your whites their whitest, this is about what the fans like ;) There's no cookie cutter sheet in this scene, folks. So I'll say it again, I applaud what they're doing :partyman: You don't like it, I respect that, we agree to...well, you know.

Comparing a company (Dudebox) to platforms is not a good analogy. Compare it to other companies. For instance, what's up with Kidrobot? They're all over the place! One day it's dunnys, the next day it's Parra figures and Star Wars basketballs! They should just stick to making Mascots!

I suppose when your company only consists of platform toys, then people are going to compare them to other platform toys. Makes sense really.
