I just received this note from UPS stating that i owe $70.71 for brokerage fees. How is this even possible the products i bought only cost $100, and they are asking for over 50%. Even though i'm in canada it should not be $70. Does anyone know if i can refund the products and get my money back and not pay the $70? Also it is only a 3.2lb package. How hard it be to ship that. This is my first and last time ever i will order kr stuff from here again.

P.S USE USPS KR it will make your customers happy.

That is horrible. I am sorry to hear about that. I have just passed this along and hopefully i will hear something back. I have definitely been pushing for more accommodating shipping options... Especially for those ordering internationally.

thanks for the reply, i was lucky i was not home yet so i don't have to deal with the fees yet but please kr can you help me out? these were suppose to be presents and i am already low on money. Atleast i didn't ship them to their house. Thanks

That's how KR rolls. They only ship UPS so you're going to get screwed at your door no matter what. That's why I refuse to buy anything directly from kidrobot. USPS would've cost you about 10 bucks on your end. 5 for GST and 5 for brokerage.

It's unfortunate we all have to find this out the hard way, I personally got boned out of $45 on a $70 order. I've never since ordered directly from KR and won't until the get their stuff together. Look into Canadian based options for buying KR products or even American retailers that offer USPS.

Yeah it sucks for international even canadians. I try and buy from the local shops here in Calgary or even Edmonton now. With the conversion and even the shipping costs from Edmonton it turns out cheaper some times. I can't understand it either. I try to stress to people I buy from to use USPS as the duties don't start until you hit over $300 I think? UPS charges for even 45 bucks. Sucks big monkey butt. Try and sweet talk someone you know in the states to buy it for you and ship it to you regular post It'll be10 bucks at most.

Olie, what do you need? Post a thread on the boards asking if some nice boardie will get the stuff for you and ship it to Canada. I just shipped 3 dunnies to a board member for $2-$3 first class international. Unfortunately you can't get tracking with that, but you do at least get a customs number. Find a trustworthy board member who lives close to a store and see if they can help you out.

Let us know how it goes with KR on the refund front.

That stinks but KR isn't going to be able to assist you with your brokerage fee's, this is something that while you may have overlooked, should have been accounted for when you purchased something cross border.

that brokerage fee to canada is def no joke. the percentage they charge on the item cost is just insanity...it could almost be considered robbery since the fee they charge is kind of hidden until you get that bill. My mom ordered a hoodie for me a couple xmas' ago and than got the brokerage bill a few days before the 25th, I ended up getting the mail. I mean hoodies a few years ago were still at like 150 a pop... aka brokerage fee's were shocking... i ended up paying the nearly hundred dollar brokerage fee, i couldnt let my mom pay that for a flippin' hoodie! oh yah... and that was before KR decided to lighten up on their own shipping fee's... pretty much 300. pathetic.

I usually accept stuff at my house and then forward it to Canada/UK via USPS. I've done it for quite a few boardies. It's really the only way internationals can get stuff off KR.com and not pay fees out the @$$.

thanks for all your help. Next if i ever buy it again ill ask someone. The only reason why i bought it so quickly because it was the clothing sale and many of sizes were going quick. I would buy from canada but not many stores have kidrobot clothing. I knew there was going to be duty and all that but $70? thats ridiculous.

I work for a retail store, and they have a flat $6.99 fee they charge our customers. and that for shoes, leather jackets, jeans so maybe if you guys get a contract with ups or usps they would give you a flat shipping rate

I'm sure as big as KR is that they already do have a HUGE discount from UPS. (I know that my company does and we're not nearly as large as KR). The huge discount is exactly why they don't offer USPS (that combined with the fact that UPS will pick up the packages directly from their main warehouse).

It's quite a shame to know exactly how much of a discount a company like KR gets....yet I also know how much KR charges....they make a huge profit off of the shipping for sure.

I would b more than happy to help anyone out in the future with forwarding packages through USPS, or just plain muling for that matter

i can attest to this too. I bought about 180-190$~ worth of stuff off KR when i they had that online sale, i was doing backflips when the delivery guy came. Jaw dropped when he said i owed 80$ in COD..basically 50% of the bill. it's pretty ridiculous. I've bumped a thread in apparell forum that has other retailers for KR clothing, but im assuming because a bunch of them are american, we STILL might get dinged for cod fees.


i knew that i would have to pay cross the border fees, but had NO idea that it'd be so damn high, erring on the point of daylight robbery, since it's just a tiny 6 font box of text that says you will be paying COD fees. +40-50% of the total sale is just ridiculous

yup... just got dinged $55 in brokerage fees for 2 shirts equaling $90... I would have told them to go f%&$ themselves, however, Kidrobot does not return sale items... Awesome times...

for real, its cheaper to ship US to canada than within the US itself, hit a boardie up, buy them a blind box as a thank you. ha

Not sure it (First Class Mail International) is cheaper, but it's definitely around about the same. Only downside I can see is that you can't get delivery confirmation unless you go Priority Mail, which is a minimum of $25 I think. Am I right in this?

I don't think so. I always send stuff international First Class. It's true you can't track it, but you do get a customs number that can be used in almost the same way, especially with lost or stolen items.

I know international FLAT RATE priority starts at $12.95 for a small box. I almost never see the need to send things priority, though.

This has been happening a lot as of late! Our store and my residence has been hit with fees when we get stuff from out of country...what gives?? I keep hearing, "It's the economy..." Okaaaayyyyy....

No, it's VAT and customs fees. If you order something, it doesn't come as a "gift". That's the only way to send something duty-free.

Whenever I send something out of the US, I ALWAYS mark it as "toys" or "clothes" and never include the slip. Always mark it as a "gift" on the customs from and don't give it a high value. The higer the value, the more import taxes you have to pay.

Yeah, I used to include them so boardies could have their receipt. Turns out, bad idea. If customs opens it, they're going to charge VAT and fees because of and based on that slip.
