de's SDCC 2007 experience

Post by dear earthling » Wed Aug 01, 2007 9:04 am

Wow.

Where to start?

I wanted to begin with a bunch of shout outs, but I just got home early, early Wenesday morning, and I don't feel like typing that much. So, I think I'll start by posting sketchbook goodies! These are all on 9" x 12" 80lb. sheets.

Walked by the Dark Horse booth, and no one seemed to even know who Tara was :(
Love this woman.
Image

Wasn't a line for JLed when I spotted him, either. Where was everybody?
Image

Spent a lot of time (and money!) at J Neth's booth. He and his wife are the most incredibly nice people you will ever meet.
Image

One of my new favorite artists - Yoskay Yamamoto
Image

You disappeared, Jim! I was gonna take you up on that ride back home, man :)
Image

The incredibly cool-headed Attaboy
Image

Dacosta really took his time with every sketch. He gave me the inside scoop on some upcoming projects, and this guy's heart is definitely in the right place.
Image

Do I really need to say anything at all? Really?! :)
Image

Soto was sketching even though I heard he wasn't feeling too good. Thank you much, Jeff!
Image

Went over to VTN Friday night and there was barely anyone there. I HAD to get the Germs piece, though. He busted me out this sketch, signed and drew on the box, and gave me a t-shirt (as did J Neth) when I told him his was my favorite release this year. I didn't think he was getting the attention he deserved, and that sucks...
Image

Also at VTN - Toby HK,
Image

Buff Monster,
Image

Colorblok (the beautiful Juliana),
Image

and Luke Feldman, who's Mai figure is gonna be just incredible in each of its 4 colorways. Luke was an inCREDibly nice guy and was SO happy to talk to me about the upcoming figure. Hopefully see you in September, man!
Image

Back over at the con, I tracked down Bell on the opposite side of the center and he graciously concocted this beauty of a beast
Image

Then on Saturday night, got to finally meet Christopher Lee, and what a blast it was! When I introduced myself, he got up from his seat and seemed really excited. "You're dear earthling?!" We had talked a bit on this board about custom Mellows, and he was really psyched to talk about it. Anyway, such a cool guy and he even included (unknown to me at the time) one of my tattoos in the sketch.

Thanks, Chris!
Image

Image

Image

Back at the con, I asked Amy if she usually does sketches. She very politely said no, but that she'd do a little something for me. Thank you so much, Amy!
(And props to MFMunny for not bugging her any further :) )
Image

And right next to Any was the one and only Mr. James Jean.
I'm so flattered to have a sketch by him!
Image

Miss Mindy and CJ Metzger were two of the nicest, sweetest, and most gracious people I met over the course of the con. Thanks for letting me kick it for so long and making me all comfy over at your booth, ladies! Mindy actually looks way too much like her characters. Can't wait to talk to them again.
Image

Image

Han's line up was always further than the eye could see, but I managed to catch him just sittin' there at MK
Image

And that's it for my sketches.
I'll be posting toy pics, pics of artists and boardies, prints, and just all the random fun and chaos that went down this year.

SOOO much to talk about, and I can't wait to share it all with ya! \:D/

I totally agree with you DE. The Germs piece was not getting the love I expected. I picked it up from VTN on Friday night. Germs is a super cool cat. I also snagged the t-shirt. Anyway, the piece looks absolutely superb. Definitely my favorite pick up.

Good meeting you too, Momcan! And for the record, he does NOT speak in all caps...

Thanks, Goose! Much apreciated!
Btw, you've gotta tell me the story behind the name GooseWonder :)

Hey Typo, did I see you at the VTN with the red version of the shirt on? I made a stupid joke about prom, and how I should go home and change real quick

And definitely, MF. Really cool to meet you, and I hope I can hang with a bunch of you before next year's con, cuz I had a blasty blast!

Welcome home, DE,

Glad you made it back in one piece. Your sketches are amazing. Wow! What a list of amazing artists.

BTW, your sketches that I've seen on the board are off the hook! Mad props, my friend.

Take it easy. Whenever you're up to it - frosty beers on me.

That wasn't me DE. I was wearing a black Jeremy Fish shirt. I was the only person at the table when I purchased mine. I couldn't stay long. I had dinner plans and it was sweltering in there.

+1 Kathie seems like the most down to earth artist alive (Chris Lee rocks socks also)

but anyone who sees DE work would want a sketch (I'm such a mark lol)

Did you get my first package DE? The second one w/ the shelves and currency should be arriving soon!

btw...GooseWonder....the story is that I'm like a 3 year old stuck in a 23 year old's body. I LOVE vodka (primarily the Goose) and I wonder about everything, like a 3 year old. My dorm-mate my first semester in college dubbed me that, and it has kind of stuck. People have come w/ their own variations like G~Wonder, or Goosiator, or BoyWonder, or even gooseBALL lol...either way its all in good fun
