This should be the *official* hotel hook-up thread. I as well am in need of a room. I haven't even looked at places in or around SD. Can usually find a spot in Nation City or Chula Vista and the trolley runs right along the 5 in case ya dun wanna drive. Don't wanna end up in El Cajon like I did 4 years ago for SDCC.

This site is having a 30% sale at the Westin! Little spendy still, but your just blocks away, and the spot is pimp! Usually about 4 bills a night there, Fri originally $450! Not sure about Sat night availabilty, cause we are checking out Sat.
Anyway, thought this might help someone...

I have no problem finding rooms, it's just that I can't afford $250 a night. The cheapest I found was $119 in Chula Vista for Wednesday and Thursday. So my thing is if there's anybody who has a room and perhaps some floor space I wouldn't mind paying even just to crash on the floor and take a shower. I'm a little guy so I don't take up much space. Also if you're not driving I will have a car, Dodge Caliber and would be willing to drive you anywhere and you could use my trunk space to store your purchases so you don't have to lug them around all day. I plan on attending all days and arriving really early in the morning so I plan to park either in the Convention center parking lot or one within close walking distance. Also I would be willing to offer my services for waiting in line to obtain purchases so long as it doesn't interfere with my own plans.
I'm starting to sound pathetic and desperate.

Are you sure? If you are, could you tell me which Sheraton (by name) specifically? Just looked and the rooms there are $450 a night during the Con.

If you click on the link drilone provided above. Then select Individual or Group and click Make A Reservation. There are some rooms available from 1 block to 7 miles away. The cheapest being $152 a night. Doubletree has Wednesday and Sunday listed available. Most of the one's listed however state x no rooms available. I guess try calling each hotel, but this does give a good list of hotels near by.

Logged in as a Starwood account holder, 6 different room selections for $494 per night during the con. I almost booked this when I saw your post becuase I thought the ~$520 was the total for 4 nights, which would have been an unbelievable deal. I'm skeptical of the Sheraton near the San Diego Airport ever having rooms for $139, let alone during the most expensive week of the year.
At a minimum you should recommend your friend confirms his reservation for the dates that the con is going on - if he booked the wrong week, month or whatever, he's going to be hard pressed to find a room anywhere south of Orange County (rhetorically speaking) when he gets there.

Most hotels thru travel planners was 159 - 235 and were available up to last week if you checked during the day. I got a hotel 2 weeks ago 3 blocks away for 189 a night.
