I also learn't that all English people apparently hate Muslims.

Quote:
I'm also aware that it's socially acceptable to discriminate against people in your country on the basis of practicing islam.

viewtopic.php?f=35&t=169231

I have quite a few mates that are Muslims. I don't hate them for practicing Islam. It really doesn't bother me what they do or believe in. But when some burn our Poppys on Remembrance Day, don't expect people to like THOSE muslims. Doesn't mean people hate the entire religion! Don't put everyone in the same basket. Americans killed a Muslim the other week. That means all Americans hate anyone practicing Islam....doesn't it?

I lived in a pretty racist country for 8 years when I was younger so I know what racism is like.

Also, at least we don't ask our Prime Minister to prove he's British, by producing his birth certificate.

Come on Fail, you are normally a focused guy with good ,valid points, except when it comes to Banksy apparently , in one good post, why do you dislike him so much?

I used to like him. A LOT. I agreed with his message, his methods, and his anonymity. I even racked his books.

Then, for whatever reason (probably money, it's pretty hard to say no to tens of thousands of dollars) he started selling out (in my eyes - know a lot of people disagree with this point).
Since then, I've seen him do commissions for crazy money, ruin a man's home, take advantage of the same demographic of art appreciators that make up the majority of his followers (call it a social experiment if you will, i'm over it) on purpose to make money, and start going against the rules in graf which i believed to be hard and fast rules (apparently, to some they're not - i've literally fought for them, so to me they are). Sacred rules like Burners>Throwups>handstyles>stencils>stickers, you don't tag people's homes, you do your own pieces.
That's pretty much it. Now all i see is him trying to cash in on other people's balls, like making a print of the tesco riot, when the people who deserve the respect are the ones throwing cocktails at big corporation.

I'd guess the reason i'm so incoherent when i talk about it is that it really hit me hard to see an icon go bigtime. I feel like I've said what i can really say, and that it's all opinions anyway.
Also, some of the reason i got so p!ssed recently was that ish about a kid getting dropped on his head for having a different opinion and syntax than the usual boardie. Not really cool at all, and it's easy to say ish about a person's physical nature over the internet.

I'll leave the banksy fans to admire banksy now.

Totally respect your opinion, but that man's home was a water reservoir/storage of some kind that he made his home? I mean, it DID looked like an elephant !
if you can live in the desert in a water storage he wont have much trouble finding other suitable place for him, and maybe Banksy even did him a favor, living in a rusty environment gives you a condition called red lung, very painful and I dont think his HMO will cover that :p

As for the sellout part, come on, the dude provided us plenty of hints of how crazy the art world has been since the 60's , he is just part of the madness, Dali made clothes, furniture, perfumes, designed interiors, sculptures, paintings, directed movies, gave his name to 3 restaurants (of course got paid to allow that)

Picasso, the same thing , he even designed prints for scarfs and purses

At least Bansky confronts people with things like this:

While its heartwarming and all that you're sympathetic to that "kid", its seriously misplaced. The ribbing he got from me and Xene had nothing to do with opinions and everything to do with being a f@cking moron. I don't know about you, but we donate about 50-100 books a year to our local library - while to the contrary, that d0uchebag likes to steal from his and then gloat about it on art/toy forums? Its interesting, of all people that have replied in this thread that you even mention that exchange as if that is somehow the typical MO of guys like Xene and I - you should know better than that...

Jim

Absolutely, sorry, but that had nothing to do with having a different opinion and syntax, he/she came to an art/toy forum preaching of how inhumane and retarded was to pay 20k+ for a Kaws OG,

"sooooooo manyyy people hungryyyy " ... someone call a whambulance

Anyway...enough of this little discussion. It won't get resolved. Too many opinions. Back to Banksy?

Four Cities

Swoon, Os Gemeos, Banksy, Shepard Fairey

Black Rat Projects 20th May – 23rd June 2011

"The world we live in, and beginning with its material decor, is discovered to be narrower by the day. It stifles us. We yield profoundly to its influence; we react to it according to our instincts instead of according to our aspirations. In a word, this world governs our way of being and it grinds us down." Guy Debord

In 2007 the global population living in urban environments passed the halfway mark, and that trend is accelerating. As cities become bigger and denser, and within the rigid structures of a mass-market society, truly meaningful personal interactions become increasingly elusive. The anonymising effects of scale and excess on the actor in the postmodern city can lead to a shared sense of social isolation.

In Four Cities Black Rat Projects will take a look at the four artists whose experience of urbanity propelled them to create within their environment in similar ways. With new works by represented artist Swoon, and secondary market works sourced from Os Gemeos, Banksy and Shepard Fairey, BRP will map the parameters of the street art movement across continents through the voices that emerged simultaneously as the strongest of their respective city scenes.

Preview evening at Black Rat Projects, Thursday 19th May 2011, 6-9pm

So James Cameron moved to London and became the prime minister while learning gypsies dont travel or dress like prostitutes. But Banksy has no become Hanksy revealing his secret identity on a wall mural. But hes not worried because the prime minister Mr. James Cameron promised him a Avatar with no gypsy blood and no funny names like chokra ramantunchep....
