HOW TO PRIME A GID MUNNY!?

I picked up a GID Munny to paint, (at a steal for $4.99 ;D) but was wondering how you can prime it while keeping the GID aspect. I'd much rather keep the glow in the dark because the way I want to do it is so that a lot of GID is showing. Do they have a clear primer, or can I just super wash it, and then lightly sand them with a fine grit sandpaper? Also what grit should I use to do it? This will be my first custom, but it's not going to be anything major.

and im sure it doesnt NEED to be primed but keep in mind the smooth vinyl doesnt hold paint very well so if you put something like tape on a painted section it will pull the paint right off the toy ...you can try a flat clear spray, i assume that would work just like any other flat paint just not as thick maybe
