What is American Vinyl?

Post by yiminy » Fri Sep 16, 2005 9:10 pm

Does it seem to anyone else that a forum dedicated to American Vinyl - without European or Asian vinyl forums - seems a bit chauvanistic? Even the East/West division that exists between shopping categories on many websites seems blurry to me...

I might be wrong but I think the only difference is the artist. Asian vinyl carries well known artists in the asian market while western vinyl is known more for contributions by artists out west.

Well at KR you can see Futura (NY) and Misfits (NJ) in Asian vinyl. Other websites have touble figuring out where ScaryGirl goes - an Australian artisit living in Canada produced in Hong Kong made in China. And so on. I guess my question was more why does American vinyl in particular get a forum and not other regions?

KAWS is American. Born and raised in Jersey City, NJ. Attended SVA in NYC. Resides at studio in Brooklyn. He is definitely American vinyl.

good point.. 'western vinyl' would be more fitting..

Frank is born in Madrid Spain right? but later immigrated to USA? so no connection to Spain anymore? in Asia, one can be a perm resident in a few countries if you have stayed there long enough and meet certain criteria.. but generally as far as labeling goes.. it still goes back to the country you are born in, unless you already gave up citizenship there.. how does it work over in the States?

Maybe we could get KR to weigh in on its thinking on this one... Why American Vinyl instead of Western Vinyl?

yeah, that would make more sense. i don't see the need for such a forum in the first place though. there are enough forums as it is.
leave heatware trader feedback here.

I think this forum is pointless. We already have Toy Talk. There will be a lot of overlap between the 2 forums.

I think the point of this forum is that someone said "yeah, we should give them a Circus Punk forum, but nah I'm not sure." So yeah in a way kinda pointless. Either way they'll either remove it or we will keep finding thinks to talk about in here.
