We've got a comic book shop here that is starting to get into vinyl. The owner was cool enough to come by and talk to me, and has made it really clear that he's not trying to compete with me, but wants to be able to offer different stuff and hopefully help build the toy scene here in Cleveland.

That approach? Awesome.

The tricky thing becomes how many exclusives that you can only get through Diamond...pink Smash and all kinds of other stuff.

I can't even get a Diamond account because the monthly minimum order is way too high for my tiny little shop to uphold, and I refuse to back-door the stuff on eBay just to move inventory for 10% above wholesale. That's shady business.

Hopefully it will end up being a good thing for us. The comic shop is going to work with us so that we are carrying complimentary but not overlapping items, and we're going to try and co-host events with them.

KR in Previews? No idea....but I guess I'm going to find out.

After reading Shoparooni's reply, I'm curious as to what other toy shop owners don't order from Previews. If not, why?

We actually do. Diamond have a "non-specialist" (as in non-comics specialist) retailer category.

I was under the impression that we had to maintain the same minimums as comic shops, which is why we've never ordered from them. From the information that I got, it seems like they aren't advertising the fact that you can get a "non-specialty" account.

I'm very grateful to Oliver from Campion de Popier for giving me the heads up on the different retailer accounts! Thanks again for that tip. :)

It already seems like the designer vinyl scene is exploding all of a sudden.

Well, you're starting to see vinyl showing up in a lot more mainstream places. Like Shia LaBoefs bedroom in "Transformers" for one.

I think it's a lot of hullaballoo over nothing, really. I know that as soon as something gets popular, people like to scream "SELLOUT!" but c'mon...do you really think you'll ever see Dunnys in a Happy Meal? That goes against everything that Kidrobot has ever done.

KR is about toys as art. I highly doubt that's ever going to change.
