5" Graf Trains, Artists Wanted!

Post by DMS » Thu Mar 06, 2008 9:03 am

I'm finishing off my 5" resin plaster (like Heartheads etc) Graf Trains and looking for some artists. This is a non profit thing, just to be given away to promote the blanks (which i may or may not try to sell) and the artists who want to do a design.

What I'm planning on doing to cut down on shipping round the globe (i'm from UK), is to upload a template and have people do their thing and email it back to me.

Then I'll make a waterslide transfer of the design and put it onto the blank train.

I'll send the train out to the artist for them to keep.

Would anyone be interested in this at all? I'm just trying to get a shortlist of suitable artists right now. PM me, with a link to your stuff if possible.

Pics of my test train coming over the next few days.

Cheers

Good stuff,
List so far is:

Selph One
Rsinart
das mo
Konako
Shadowunkle
myself
Okkle
riot68
DJ Quinico
orlowone

Anyone else?

Just had the idea of maybe sending two trains to each artist, their own design and one from another artist involved, picked randomly.

Hoping to make this quite a regular thing once it gets going.

Would people prefer the actual blank to paint, or work on a template they can email back to me?

The original idea was to work on a template that i'll produce waterslide stickers of everyone's designs and add them to the trains before sending out.

This way postage costs are kept low and a collection can be built up where the trains can be reproduced and swapped/given away.

Each artist that contributes a design to the project can pick one from the collection to receive as an actual train. a cool way to build up a nice collection.

As I mentioned this is non-profit (will just cost me for producing the trains and postage), so I'm just trying to keep costs low. UK postage isn't a problem at all but overseas gets pricey. the bonus for me doing this is I get cool designs for my own collection.

I was thinking of the design on one side and artist details on the reverse, to promote everyones work and websites etc.

Let me know your thoughts, still getting new ideas about the whole thing.

Cheers

Thanks for all the interest. Will have some pics of the blanks and hopefully the template over the weekend.

The trains are 5" long, cast in resin plaster and primed.

As it's really just the side panels of the train, the template area to work on is basically a rectangle, very simple.

I'm working on a side panel template to look like an actual train paint job incase people want to do bombing designs or window downs etc, but as long as the designs are rectangular they'll be fine (will post resolution guideline soon).

Really looking forward to getting this going and building the collection up.

Cheers

Just to keep everyone updated, this is still definitely happening, just having pc problems and can only get on at work :S

Blank, test version and template coming very soon.

Not too late Crestone as I'm planning on making this an ongoing thing with new artists involved constantly.

Cheers
