Anyone seen this design before?

Post by felon » Mon Mar 31, 2008 1:00 pm

First off: Respect to Toycult for his work on the 3d dunny template - the original posting can be found here..

http://forums.kidrobot.com/viewtopic.php?t=85060

Anyway, I was tinkering around in photoshop and cinema 4d and came up with this little design that I was considering putting on some platforms, thing is: I think I might have seen something very much like it before...

Please take a look and let me know if it seems familiar, I searched google but couldn't find anything, I just can't shake the feeling that I've seen a similar design somewhere.

Cheers

I remember seeing a Hawaiian magnolia print somewhere before but
1. it's an iconic design, hardly one person's sole creation, so fair game, and
2. you've certainly put your own spin on it and a nice one at that, so go for it!

def seen something similar before. In NZ there was a whole series of magnolias done by a stencil artist, they became fairly iconic across the country. I've been trying to find some links for you, but no luck. It was a couple of years back. But, your designs look slick as. DO IT!

Perhaps you're thinking of this (Leilow Bearbrick) ...but your design is different enough, IMHO.

Rotokirby, yeah I think that might have been what I was remembering.

Thanks again guys, now I gotta wrap my brain around how to get the design off the PC and onto the dunny!!!

I have no experience at all with 3D software, but can you pull the design off and flatten it to 2D? If so, you could send the flat design to a sign shop, and have a laser cut vinyl decal made. Then you can apply it to fig to fit. That's just a thought though.

That's good thinking there.

I was thinking about a vinyl stencil, the main headache as I see it would be wrapping it around the curved surface of the dunny.

Having said that the idea of unwrapping it might well eliminate the problem.

Good thinking! Thanks man!
