from what I've seen it seems like the reason the shipping is probably so expensive is because they have to use a third party for the service and the cc companies will only cover items sent with full tracking and info so most likely the items are being sent expedited which has recently taken a huge jump at the post office. with full tracking and expedited service international mail can easily get up there in cost. I'm sure someone needs to be paid to "fill out customs forms and what not for the third party provider so that might account for some additional costs?

It cost me $65 just to send a deflated football overseas with tracking and insurance. :|

Not justifying the prices just giving a possible explanation, I'm sure as soon as KR gets the kinks worked out and works out a better contract with a different third party the prices will go way down.

Was there ever an official statement made about the Kwanza ape and it's availability etc.?

Also, I"m still fairly new to collecting, but was curiuos if it was common for something like this to happen - I assume there was a limited run of them made and these few were leaked to build the hype around them before the rest going up for sale.

Whatever the case I'm suprised there wasn't an official explanation. I would think it would make you completists go crazy, when things like this pop up that are never explained etc...

KR just reposted it, saying "look who showed up at the signing...".

Wonder how MAD feels about that.

I meant is this the custom one Mad sent to Kidrobot as a trio to get produced and they did two and rejected this because clearly this is a custom Ape not a production piece, you can clearly see the white paint under the colour on the feet

Or is this the one that was found in the Boom box if so it's just a custom not an production as first thought

I zoomed in all the way, no sign of "white paint under the colour on the feet" top just the green reflecting to the light.

This is likely a piece from the box of doom or one that Tolleson somehow had.... mad's comment leads me to believe this is a unreleased production piece "... We finally meet"

I don't think Mad would post that comment if it was a custom.

From earlier in the thread, he sent 3 designs to KR - Christmas, Hanukkah, and Kwanza. KR went with 2 (Christmas and Hanukkah). Then they sold the "Boxes of Boom" and all of a sudden the Kwanza ape appeared in a couple. Speculation is that they're samples that were supposed to be destroyed but weren't. Who knows how many are really out there...

Some people really need to get over the fact that people sell toys in order to afford new ones. I know. It's shocking. But it happens.

I knew I am rezzing a super old post but, the Quanza dunny is my #1 holy grail, and I just talked to Jeremy today about it. He said it was going to be a production piece, but it got canceled. Then someone (his words, someone) sent him one, and that is where the picture is from. That seems like all he knows about it.

Also if anyone is looking to sell a Quanza message me.

There are only a few in the wild. The only one I know that was actually "bought" from Kidrobot was through a mystery box. Pretty sure that collector still has it in his possession.

interestingly tho... if you recall the semi-failed partnering of KR with HobbyDB to curate a Dunny catalog, the info on there states that it was a joke:
https://www.hobbydb.com/catalog_items/holidape-kwanzaa-edition

not so sure about that... :-k

Yea that is why I made this new post. Jeremy says he has one for, it didn't feel like he was trying to carry on this joke.
