To help bring in the new year, I will be listening to an album that has had a monumental effect on my life each week, for the entire year. I have been posting them to Facebook but I will also post them here as well.

The first album to kick off the new year is….
Green Mind by Dinosaur Jr. https://itun.es/us/-L7Jj

I discovered this album in the early 90’s and has not left my rotation ever since!

Enjoy...

The first week is over and now onto week 2!

I was introduced to this album in 88/89 by my 2 best friends in high school. I knew about punk/hardcore already but this album was next level. Super powerful and super aggressive, yet tunes like "Secret 77" and "Sacred Love" give this album a mystical vibe as well.. To top it all off, the band is comprised of 4 Rastafarians..

Ladies and gentlemen, introducing I Against I by Bad Brains! https://itun.es/us/zN05g

Cannibal Ox - New "Blade of Ronin" Album.

Pretty dope, might need like 10 plus listens to get in the groove but i'm feeling it. Nothing can touch the "Cold Vein" album though. Vast Aire's flow with EL-Producto's production cannot be touched, match made in heaven.

I haven't been keeping up with my one album per week in this thread, so here..

3. My album pick for week number 3 is still my favorite Hip Hop album of all time, Illmatic by Nas..

This album changed the Hip Hop game forever and to this day I have never heard an album that tells such amazing stories with such a descriptive narrative..

Big ups if you agree.. I know most of you do..
Illmatic by Nas: https://itun.es/us/NoKEN

4. My number 4 pick is an album that holds a very special place in my heart. I credit this album as the album that got me into electronic music back in 1991. Even though it is over 20 years old, every time I hear this album, I hear something I've never heard before. I present to you The Orb's Adventures Beyond the Ultraworld... https://itun.es/us/y6lb

5. Number 5 - The Pixies - Surfer Rosa. Such raw power. And humor. And awesome. It’s just so damn good, even 25+ years later… https://itunes.apple.com/us/album/surfer-rosa/id7206268

6. I present you all with my 6th album of the year!

Unfun by Jawbreaker

Funny story about my number 6 pick.. The year was 1991. I was taking a trip with my best friend. We decided to pop Jawbreaker's "Unfun" into the cassette deck and THE CASSETTE GOT STUCK. Needless to say we listened to "Unfun" for about 16 hours straight. That album definitely made an impression on me that day...

With an experience like that, how could this album NOT make it onto my list?

Anyways.. It's amazing.. If you've never heard of Jawbreaker, this is a great intro to them.

https://itun.es/us/dJjrv

7. Radiohead's OK Computer is my 7th pick in my quest of listening to a life changing album each week.

I don't even know what to say about this album. The year was 1997, I was going through a very weird time in my life and it was just very appealing. Maybe because each song is so completely different, I found it captivating. I don't know, it's just REALLY GOOD. It's actually my favorite Radiohead album. Maybe as I listen to it throughout the week, I will have some earth shattering psychic change that allows me to elaborate on why it was so monumental, maybe I won't..

Enjoy..

https://itun.es/us/TW1HP

8. My number 8 pick for the year is Smashing Pumpkin’s Gish. This album is raw power. It’s their best album. It is brilliant. If you’ve never heard this album, do yourself a favor and get it. I’ll give it to you if you don’t have it, just listen to it. Now.

https://itunes.apple.com/us/album/gish/id721209887

Gish is the debut album by American alternative rock band The Smashing Pumpkins, released in May 1991 through Caroline Records. Frontman Billy Corgan described Gish as a "very spiritual album".Despite initially peaking at only number 195 on the Billboard 200 upon its release, Gish was eventually certified platinum (one million copies shipped) by the RIAA.

Gish was recorded from December 1990 to March 1991 in Butch Vig's Smart Studios in Madison, Wisconsin with a budget of $20,000. Vig and Billy Corgan worked together as co-producers. The longer recording period and larger budget were unprecedented for Vig, who later remembered,
(Corgan) wanted to make everything sound amazing and see how far he could take it; really spend time on the production and the performances. For me that was a godsend because I was used to doing records for all the indie labels and we only had budgets for three or four days. Having that luxury to spend hours on a guitar tone or tuning the drums or working on harmonies and textural things . . . I was over the moon to think I had found a comrade-in-arms who wanted to push me, and who really wanted me to push him.
The inclusion of a massive production style reminiscent of ELO and Queen was unusual for an independent band at the time. Whereas many albums at the time used drum sampling and processing, Gish used unprocessed drum recordings, and an exacting, unique guitar sound. Billy Corgan also performed nearly all of the guitar and bass parts on the record, which was confirmed by Vig in a later interview.
The album's sessions, lasting 30 working days, were brisk by Pumpkins' standards, largely because of the group's inexperience. The recording sessions put an intense strain on the band, with bassist D'arcy Wretzky later commenting that she did not know how the band survived it, and Corgan explaining he suffered a nervous breakdown.

9. Kinda slacking with my number 9 pick for the year but here it is..
Coldcut - Let Us Play
I always hear something new when I listen to this. There are just so many samples… And there’s Jello Biafra on a track.
Big ups if you know this one!

https://itunes.apple.com/us/album/let-u ... d416327327

10. My number 10 pick is probably the most monumental album in this list so far. I was introduced to this compilation when it was released back in 1992. My parents gave it to me for a Christmas present and everything changed on that Christmas Day. Thanks mom for such an amazing gift. It has been the best gift I have ever received!
Ladies and gentlemen, I present to you Bob Marley's "Songs of Freedom."
